# Monitoring

> University of Münster CIT provides a central monitoring solution based on Grafana, Mimir, Loki and Tempo.

[Grafana](https://grafana.uni-muenster.de) and the other monitoring services are readily available for storing and visualizing metrics, logs and traces for your applications.
We provide a seamless integration in Kubernetes, but these services are also available for services deployed outside of Kubernetes.
If deployed outside Kubernetes, we recommend using [Vector](https://vector.dev) and [OpenTelemetry Collector](https://opentelemetry.io/docs/collector/) for ingesting Logs and Traces.

## Request Monitoring Access

Any institution or work group at the University of Münster can request access to the monitoring services.

To request access, please fill out the [request form](/forms/monitoring-service-application).

### Submission

After completing the form, send the request by email to `cloud@uni-muenster.de` using your university email account.

You may either:

- submit the form directly, or
- download the generated `.yaml` file and attach it manually to your email.

Please digitally sign the email using your personal university certificate.

### Note for Outlook Users

Microsoft Outlook may use the outdated `SHA1` hashing algorithm for digital signatures by default. Since `SHA1` is considered insecure by modern cryptographic libraries, such signatures will be rejected by our ticket system.

If you use Outlook, please ensure that a modern hashing algorithm such as `SHA256` is configured for your digital signature.

### Processing Time

Processing the request may take up to one week.
